The Selati Super Cup, “Iyanon-gotela6” draw has been done and many teams are now preparing according to their fxtures. Amongst the things that are building the anticipa-tion this year is the number of teams registered. This year’s tournament saw an increase of registering teams to 178 male teams.
Some popular teams, including Mawewe Scorpions, will not partici-pate. Rule breakers Mz-inti Young Waves are being omitted this year for causing chaos in last year’s episode. The tournament is special with its big support from soc-cer lovers. Teams and fans from all corners of Nkomazi are converging with one com-mon goal: playing and watch-ing soccer. The tournament has recon-sidered registration of play-ers and agreed that teams are only allowed to use fve play- ers from outside the Nkomazi region. The rules also states that onely three players from outside Nkomazi can be in a match.
Since the draw has been done coaches are promising high to their opponents and checking out the new compe- tition. This year will feature star studded Nkomazi All Stars, who will be coached by Zwelihle Sibanyoni. “This team is only for stars and we want to make sure that our opponents suffer each and ev-ery match,” said Sibanyoni. Sibanyoni also told Nkomazi that it has been a notion that newcomers will take the Cup and the same applies to them. “We just want to prove that there are lots of soccer stars here in Nkomazi. We want to use the rejected and neglected ones to make them champi-ons,” promised Sibanyoni.Mbokodo Wondrous Sha-bangu Shakes also made it clear to their opponents, Mid-dleplaas Pirates, that they are already out of the tourna-ment. Some of the touch fx- tures include the one between Langeloop City Movers and Matsamo Swallows. All the matches are sched-uled to play on the opening day of the Selati Super Cup at Driekoppies stadium on the 27th of February. The tournament will be in-teresting to watch unfold. As the big teams face each other and some of the so called “big teams” will not see the second round. We are also sure to see some under dogs make it far. Kenneth Phiri, the tourna-ment’s co-ordinator from the sponsor TSB, welcomed the fxture and warned the teams to behave during the tourna-ment. “I am warning teams to be disciplined. They must accept if they are defeated and leave the referees alone,” warned Phiri. Others say a team can have best players, but if they have poor muthi they will keep on losing. Let’s watch and see!
