JEPPES REEF – The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) teachers played against local teachers and Tinhlonhla teachers last Wednesday. SADTU proved to be the best, as they walked away winning one goal to nil. According to SADTU coordinator Thulani Nhlapho SADTU’s secret is that they are busy training. He said, “most of the teachers teams fail to overcome us, as they are not training.” SADTU has played many teams including the correctional services and the Church on the Hill team, SAPS and others. In almost all of their games they walk away being the winners. “We are aiming at making the team a well known one and that it will also promote sports amongst ourselves. We want the children we are teaching to learn from us,” said Nhlopho. “Many of the teachers are becoming overweight because they teach and then go home or stay to sleep, which is against the health system. Apart from becoming the best team we want to have healthy strong teachers. Also, through sport we are building comradeship,” he continued. Hhlapho envisaged that they will play teachers from both Mozambique and Swaziland in the near future. This will serve as an opportunity to see how other countries are playing and living. SADTU also said they want to enter the local league soon so that they can grow to another level.
