23 May 2010

MALALANE – Two suspects have been arrested for smuggling illegal cigarettes last Thursday. James Makamo (70) and Suzan Mbuli (40) were arrested at Male- lane taxi rank. According to Male- lane Police spokes person, Consta- ble Bheki Nkosi, Police responded to a tip-off from, “We got a tip-off from one of our informers and we acted swiftly to the scene. We then found the two matched the descrip- tion given,” said Nkosi.

Nkosi said that they then searched Mbuli and Makamo and found two bags of counterfeit ciga- rettes from Mozambique (Safari) weighing 53 Kg each.

The two were denied bail on Friday, but on Monday Makamo was granted bail of R1500 while Mbuli’s bail was denied.

According to the court they don’t have a full description or proof of Mbu- li’s existence and they think that she is not from South Africa or Mpumalanga.

The two are scheduled to appear again at the Malelane periodical court on the 21st of April 2010 for further in- vestigation.
