Sangoma Rapist Wanted
21 May 2010

MASIBEKELA -Tonga Police are looking for a sangoma that allegedly raped a 16 years old girl last Saturday at 07h15. According to the victim, she was sick then she went to consult a sangoma. The sangoma went to his consulting room with the victim and asked her to completely undress.

The sangoma took out muthi and rubbed the victim with it, focusing on her private parts. He then undressed himself and ordered the victim to rub him too. When she protested, the sangoma said that other people were waiting outside for him so she should hurry up. He then continued by raping the young girl. When he was finished he gave the victim muthi to take a bath.

The victim went home and reported the incident to her mother. The mother took her to the police station to open a rape case. The young girl was then taken for counseling and to a doctor for an examination.

“The suspect is still at large and police are thoroughly investigating the case and the whereabouts of the suspect as he has vanished. As police we are warning parents to look after their children in any consultation that they endeavor. It is crystal clear that people are taking advantage of vulnerable young girls,” said the Tonga police station communications officer Sergeant Mzwandile Nyambi.
