Masibekela-Is it possible for one to write a story and then let other people act it out? The answer is yes, as Vusi Phiri has done it. He writes something whenever he finds time. His dream is to see himself rubbing shoulders with great writers of note one day. Most recently, he wrote a story about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse as well as the disadvantages of living a promiscuous life in our days. After writing the story a brain wave struck his mind he then saw that letting the story live only in black and white would not be enough. So he decided to gather the youth around and let them act out the story he had written. Wo rking with Vusi Mkhatshwa, the director, they managed to see the film being produced. ‘To be honest it was never easy to see the film as a success because we had to move up and down, asking for donations from various institutions and people around the area. At times we had to run practice sessions with nothing in our stomachs and I have learned that through commitment and hard work nothing is impossible,’ said Vusi Mkhatshwa. The group consists of both boys and girls and there are thirty main characters involved. The film shooting took place in different settings, on different days and for three months. They have also vowed that they would not cease acting until their dream to go overseas and meet great actors is fulfilled. The film also portrays gangsterism at its worst. Through the film they are trying to convey the message, especially to young people who are the most vulnerable, that being a gang member is not the right thing in life and it will never be.
