Swazi Correctional Services Team that plays to a 1-all draw against SADTU educator's team KANGOMA - The boundary between South Africa and Swaziland is gradually falling off in the minds of sportsmen and women. The same can also be said about the South Africa-Mozambique boundary. The recent twinning games involving two local municipalities and each from Swaziland and Mozambique bear testimony.
The trend has continued this past weekend when employees from Swaziland’s Correctional Services descended on the country to take on a football-playing band of SADTU educators at Kangoma, a sugarcane and mango farm just outside of Komatipoort. The game started on a low note as the home side struggled to make up a team. When the first whistle was blown only a squad of eight players (from the home side) took to the field. The visitors made good on their superior numbers and scored the opener early on. It was only after about 20 minutes that other members of the host team arrived to bring balance to the game. The half-time score was 1-all.
The second half belonged to the visitors’ goalkeeper who thwarted every attempt at goal by the likes of Sthembiso Moyane and his equally gifted brother, Sarafina. Both teams huffed and puffed their way through a goalless second half much to the disappointment of a paltry crowd that had braved the windy weather to watch an ‘international’ game. When the final whistle blew all players seemed relieved and it was time to go; but not before a light-hearted session where a return-match in Swaziland was agreed upon. |
