Sports development gets a boost
Blue Bulls started off like these boys
NAAS - On Saturday the 19th May at the open-ground in Naas an organization called School Sport Mass Participation (SSMP) hosted an event for children from various schools.

They played rugby, cricket, athletics and chess and there was great excitement at seeing Nkomazi kids playing rugby for the first time and watching as Idla Ngemabala rugby team suffered a big loss against Nkomazi high from Mangweni.

Undaunted by the lack of fancy facilities, the enthusiastic sports men and women improvised so that the children could all participate and enjoy the competition.

Cricket is still a relatively new sport in Nkomazi and its development is hampered by a lack of decent facilities but the youngsters showed their mettle and thoroughly enjoyed the game.

The organizers are now adamant that if facilities and equipment are made available to both the communities and in schools, it will be possible for Nkomazi children to be selected for national teams and the talent and potential is there. Some of the young players say that they dream of being the next Makhaya Ntini.

Skills in athletics were also displayed as many children enjoy running and this is another sporting code that needs to be better structured so that those with talent can be trained and compete in national events.

Nkomazi is already known for its prowess at chess and more and more schools are participating.

Those who attended the day thanked MEC Jabu Mahlangu who enabled the day to take place and to greatly benefit the children of Nkomazi.
