Image MADADENI – The pre-season games are always exciting as teams do their best trying to get themselves in shape to place them on top of the log when the league ends.

The Madadeni Top 8 tournament, which started at the beginning of this month, came to an end the last Sunday. Mgobodzi Scorpion caught up with Mangweni Limited in the finals after both teams made their way to the final by booting out Ntunda Home Killers and Sikhwahlane Sunny Boys in the semi-final respectively on the same day.

The much fancied Scorpion looked very confident and comfortable on the ball causing the Limited to struggle a bit to get their team jellying.

The first half ended on a goalless draw, and the second half started a lot quicker with both teams looking for goals. Scorpion was the first to get a goal through the accurate kick of Mandla Zulu after the ball deflected to his way and he made no mistake.

The excitement was short-lived as Limited equalized. Limited’s Coach Nkosinathi Mbazima made a tactical change by taking Rama Mphisi who was playing in middlefield to the goalkeeper, sensing penalties were the only way to determine the winner. The full time score ended in 1 all draw and penalties were taken and Limited keeper saved two penalties and limited won the match.
“The first match affected our performance as many of our key players were injured on the semifinals,” said Kenneth Mkhatshwa, the Scorpion coach.

Therefore Mangweni Limited walked away with R1200 while Scorpion as the second with R900 and the semifinal losers’ winner with R300.
