The Schoemansdal police salvaged some pride when they walloped were up against Mbabane police by 3 goals to1.In the final Schoemansdal faced the blazing Peak’s peak. The hosts were so resolute in their approach that Schoemansdal could not put together decent passes. Sensing defeated Schoemansdal upped their game and they got their just reward when they drew first blood. The Swazis lost their tenacity and allowed their visitors to dictate terms.

In no time the scoreboard read 3-1 in favour of the visitors. Schoemansdal ran out as overall winners, earning themselves a floating trophy and some respect for the country. “We were very hungry for the first win of this trophy. We are very sorry for our fellow friends KaNyamazane for losing in the semifinal. We came prepared for these games and our boys were never intimidated by the partisan crowd. I’m really proud of this team,” said Cedric Sgudla, the Schoemansdal police station coach.

Image NELSPRUIT – The Mpumalanga lowveld chess union will, again, be represented in the SA championships which will be held in Bloemfontein in December this year. This was revealed last weekend when the union hosted its final selection games in Nelspruit. Participants from Nkomazi also attended the selection games. The Nkomazi Chess Club’s six selected members under the watchful eye of Christopher Masilela, who is the sports coordinator in youth in action (YiA), were in high spirits. They cannot wait to go to Bloemfontein in December after going through the most challenging phase of their chess lives. The games are said to have been very tough and demanded more brainpower. “It is not for the first time that these players will be representing us in the SA champs. Even last year we had five players representing us in Pretoria and I am very proud of this players and the rest of Nkomazi must support them because going to the SA champs will need more of their power and some of these kids are from very underprivileged homes. They are often hungry and cannot fully concentrate on their practice,” said Masilela.Masilela also urged local business people to call 013 7814 259 with financial support. “We are facing challenges with securing transport and catering for the kids and that can stop them from participating at the highest level,” he said.

Image KAMHLUSHWA – The Nkomazi sub-region has attracted attention from the Mpumalanga Rugby Union (MRU) which lobbied for sponsonship for local rugby teams.

This became evident last week when the KaMhlushwa Rugby Club and the Lugedlane Primary School were given rugby kits including balls and sets of jerseys. These teams have been earmarked for the windfall during rugby coaching clinics which were held at Ingwenyama Lodge early this year.

Happiness was written all over the faces of the teams as they have played without proper apparel in the past.
