MZINTI - All she needed was a lift from Mzinti to Naas, but her simple request turned into a nightmare journey.

“Unfortunately, it was late so there were no taxis available at about 20:40 on Sunday,” claimed the victim, Nomcebo Ngobeni (27), “so I accepted a lift in a white Toyota Tazz with only the driver in it.”

Ngobeni claimed that after filling up with petrol in Tonga, the man took the road to Mangweni.

“I began to question why he was going in this direction,” she said, “but he shouted at me to shut up and began to drive fast.”

Apparently, he stopped the car on the dust road to Steenbok and demanded that she take off her clothes while threatening her with a knife.

“I refused,” she continued, “so he grabbed me and forced me to lie down on the ground, but I managed to overpower him, however in the struggle he managed to cut my hair.” “As he fell down I ran for my dear life,” she recalled. “I didn’t expect this to happen because he was a very polite looking man,” she said.

Fortunately Nomcebo was not injured except for losing her hair.

Tonga police station’s spokesperson Wandile Nyambi warns community members not to ask lifts from strangers. An attempted rape case was opened at Tonga police station on the same night.
