MANGWENI – Lugedlane Primary School under Nkomazi Circuit officially opened and launched the school as a ‘Health and Safety promotion’ school.
The function was blessed by the attendance of local ward councilors and guests from the departments of Education, Safety and Security and Health. The school’s principal Thandiwe Atalia Mashabane said she felt honoured to be the head of a school that has so much history. “It’s a great privilege to be a leader of this school that excels in everything it does,” she said. The school also used the function to open its Junior Traffic Training Center which was erected by the school’s learners with a donation of R10,000 from ABSA bank. “Our learners will use the center for different subjects like mathematics,” said Mashabane. She said that the school offers health studies as part of its health-promoting project. “We want our children to grow up knowing about dangerous diseases such as HIV and AIDS and other safetydreadful illnesses,” she went on. The school was established in 1955 and has an enrolment of 829 learners of whom 130 are orphans. Mashabane said the high number of orphans in her school doesn’t affect them at all. However, she mentioned a few challenges faced by her school, which includes shortage of classes, a library and laboratory for the improvement of Science and Technology studies. |
