We are living in an age were possibilities are far reaching, technology has transformed our lives and facilitated globalisation. it all seems good from a distance. Just because you have a computer and can access the internet and e mail your friend to tell him/her about this new recipe that you tried, you take it for granted that every ordinary person can have the same access. To say that this is far from the truth would be a major understatement. most people who breathe the same air as you and i don't even have a clue what a computer is, thus internet access has not even constituted 0,01% of their thoughts, rather what seems to be puzzling to them is what they are going to have to eat today. yes, i know what i'm talking about because i hail from a community that harbours such people. people who are so impoverished that the thoughts of such things as computers and internet access or even informing oneself is unthinkable, given the circumstance. i was saved from that fate when i got a chance to study at this university, yet i felt it was important that i appreciate this opportunity that has been granted to me, and remind you that some of the things tha you take for granted everyday are a luxury to most of my people....
