I hail from nkomazi myself and still reside there, so whatever i choose to express about the community is not hearsay, rather it should be regarded as views from a member of the community, someone with first hand experience of the adversities that we have to face as a collective.
Now, what i wish to express with this post today is, it is impossible to deny that the world has moved from the age where wealth was built through labour and production of goods, today we are and continue to move towards a period where information is power, meaningful wealth is aqcuired through the exploitation and effective use of the technologies that have come about. having dealt with that let me get to my point:
Some parts of nkomazi (That which i know of) have not at all grasped the importance of ICT's, and even talks of computer technology is bewildering, except of course for the wap enabled phone which the poor fellow only bought because it looked stylish, oblivious to the potential it has, as far as providing such services as information.
I wont blame this ignorance on people like me, I had my first real confrontation with a computer in 2005, while i was doing my first year at the University of Limpopo. All along i had heard of this creature and its many functions, it was never something that was readily available in my school or even around the community.
My point here is that we need to have individuals, or even organisations, commiting into taking ICT to the people of nkomazi. It would be nice to have access to public internet services right here at Boschfontein, or maybe at Magogeni, Ntunda, or anywhere else around nkomazi. It would be nice to have people actually raising awareness as to the advent and importance of the internet, and actually make such services available to the public either in the form of public computer centres or internet cafes as i have already mentioned.
i have made it my mission in life to contribute as much as i can to bringing about transformation in nkomazi, and i feel that it would be great if our youth would go out the and expose themselves to the world and educate themselves, so they can come back to nkomazi and plough back the nkowledge, the skill, the wealth, as well as the wisdom, such a move would surely facilitate growth and development in nkomazi.
I hope this discussion has atleast made you think for a second, about about these issues that i have raised and how your community can relate to them, and i hope if you are in a position to do so, you will make an effort towards changing the present situation, or atleast facilitating dialogue in which as a collective we seek possible and practical solution
I am now on the habit of blogging on this site often, but it would be nice to receive feedback or even invitations to engage in further meaningful discussions on how we can develop and improve our lives in nkomazi
