My point of departure in this article is to make a positive contribution to BUSCOR (PTY) LTD, its stakeholders and the entire province. The saying goes like this, “If something is broken, fix it. If it is dead, bury it.” What is happening in BUSCOR (PTY) LTD is a poor showing of our province if you consider that our country will be hosting a magnificent tournament come 2010. This is a pity, this is a shame. BUSCOR is failing the people dismally. I have seen old people, disabled people pushing and shoving to get a bus that will get them early to work. Further than that, the driver encouraged those who have tickets to push even harder because they are ‘prepaid customers.’
On basis of equal probabilities, BUSCOR knows how many approximate customers they have, yet they fail to provide sufficient buses for all the commuters. Our government has done enough in the now famous Sivuth’mlilo campaign; however, they have failed dismally to charge BUSCOR who transport overload everyday. It is not like they did not try, they did a few weeks ago but up to this far a sustainable solution has not been found.
Having said this, I would like to make a petition to BUSCOR limited to put their house in order before someone gets hurt or even die (sic). I do not want to say who but if this situation is not admonished a disaster is in the making. Let me put it bluntly, BUSCOR is doing this because it is competing with expensive taxis; they know that no one can afford to ride a taxi when going to work everyday. In that regard it will be hard if not impossible to boycott their buses. They have abandoned the ethos that says customers are first priority.
