Image Jeppes ReefA public hearing was held at Jeppes Reef for the first time in the history of the village. Members of the community expressed their happiness at seeing their leaders coming out of their offices to listen to their grievances. Women were in majority to that attendance of the public hearing and it demonstrated that it was their month.

Nkomazi Executive Mayor, Johan Mavuso with the governmental officials from various departments were present to answer the people’s questions. Most of the attendees admitted that their questions were answered satisfactorily. The community also had a chance to be workshoped and taught about life skills. Health department’s Veronica Nkosi stressed that 70% of HIV infected people transmitted the germ from sexual activities. She urged the community to make sure that they know their status and that condoms should be used.

Another representative from Health department, Peter Nonyane revealed that communities have opportunities to fight the scourge of poverty and pandemic HIV/Aids as his department is pumping lots of funds to finance the community projects. "I urge you to form groups and get necessary skills to make something for yourselves," he said.

Nomsa Sithole also from the department of health drew the attention of women to the PMTCT program. The program aims at preventing the HI virus from getting into the unborn child from an infected mother. She also mentioned that the program also helps to teach the mothers about feeding their babies.

Mavuso posed a challenge to the youth to make use of available bursaries to further their studies.
