Bongokuhle launched as a health promoting school
SCHOEMANSDAL – The department of health and social services have announced Bongokuhle primary school as a health promoting school.

Bongokuhle has shown an interest in the department’s initiative of announcing schools as health promoters and warning learners to stay away from abuse of drugs and alcohol. Distinguished guests graced the occasion. From the mayoral office, Robert Vilakazi passed words of wisdom to learners, teachers and parents and commended them for being healthy wise.

“Good people, you have taken a good step and you are heading to the right direction,” he said. Vilakazi said health promotion is essential and that learners around Schoemansdal area are lucky to be engaged in such programs. He even cited the commendable job done by Schoemansdal police for engaging learners in learner cop program.

The guest speaker Constance Lisasu from the provincial department of health also outlined that, “health promoting is everybody’s business especially to our children in schools because they used some members of the community in some criminal activities. Some even go as far as sending learners to sell their stolen drugs to other learners in the school premises,” she said. “That is health hazard,” she warns.

Speaking for the department of education, Bright Mdaka said their department urges other departments to work with them in shaping the future of the learners,” he said. “Without our support they will have no future,” he said. As the ceremony sealed, all the attendants promised to stay away from drug abuse and alcohol.
