NELSPRUIT - Mpumalanga’s Department of education and two educator unions, the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) and Suid Afrikaanse Onderwysers Unie (SAOU) have finally agreed on a joint recovery plan for schools. On August 1 a joint media statement was issued, outlining how the plan was to operate. Whereas, both the department and the labour organizations were in agreement that additional teaching and learning time would be needed in preparing learners for their final examinations, they differed fundamentally on how this had to be achieved. Unions had refused to volunteer their labour, demanding that their members be paid for services rendered outside of normal schooling hours. |

MASIBEKELA - The Shining Stars Dancing Group has been nominated to cruise with the ADOH to every function they host after they hammered their counterparts during a talent show function. ADOH is an organization which is helping parentless children around the area of KaMlambo Tribal trust to get financial boost. The organization’s President Norman Sibitane said they have realized that musical talent was slowly fading away because there is no financial support to keep upcoming artists going so they decided to select one strongest group in dancing. “This, in some instances, results with young artists resolving into alcohol, drugs and crime”, said Sibitane. Despite efforts done by the local municipality to get the database of the existing artists in the sub-region this remains zero in putting the youngsters on the map. Sibitane went on to say that despite the fact that they are not financially balanced but they are determined to ensure that the Shining Stars pave their way to the top. “We are going to carry them and we will see to it that they are financially assisted,” he said. This happened after the organization invited all types of performing arts ranging from drama, storytelling, poetry and many more to come and showcase their talents at Masibekela community hall. During the talent show, local youngsters were encouraged to protect themselves for not being the victims of HIV and AIDS epidemic as scores of people are said to be dying of it. Sibitane further appealed for financial assistance from local business people. |
