Image JEPPES REEF – Matsamo cultural group recently returned home from an overseas trip, which took three months.

The group did not only just returned but also brought home an international trophy after being voted the overall best traditional performers.

The group was touring six countries, which include Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, Netherlands and France. While touring Europe, the group was invited to compete during the arts and traditional music competition in Dijon France, where they clinched silver trophy and voted best overall performers and well-dressed group.

Matsamo’s Nomalanga Shongwe said they learnt a great deal while touring Europe and hopes to utilize what they have gained.

“We learned so much and even exchanged ideas which we are going to use for our benefit and of our people,” she said. She also mentioned that she has learnt that other countries love and respect their culture and heritage.

Most of the group members who spoke to this paper said they couldn’t wait for another tour as they enjoyed entertaining the Europeans and being entertained by other Europeans.
