Nkomazi - The crisis of water in some of Nkomazi villages might soon be a thing of the past. The Nkomazi municipality is building three water purification plants in Nkomazi.

They will be built in Block C, Masibekela, and one in KaMhlushwa. The water purification plants will cover villages that are currently struggling the most, like Mangweni, Block B, Dunusa, Phosaville, Goba, Mzinti and the rest of Nkomazi villages that contain sections without water at all. “Within August the water purification plant of Block C will be finish and the others will also be finish within this year also,” said the Nkomazi Municipality head of communications Cyril Prince Ripinga. “Our plan is to finish the water crisis in Nkomazi region. We cannot finish water crisis forever because if a new section is formed in each village, the section will need water also. The more Nkomazi becomes large, the more water crisis takes place,” he continued. Ripinga also outlined that a water crisis happens in old sections because of residents who take water illegally from the main pipelines. “If people form new sections next to the main pipeline illegally take water from the pipelines then water can no longer reach to the to the target homes. People must stop doing this and the municipality will plan for the sections that will be newly formed,” he advised.

The community is excited for the municipality’s plan. “Water crisis started victimizing us more after the new section, Bhodlindlala was formed. It was better before it was formed because we used to get water normally. These days we fetch water from Nkomazi River and in neighboring sugarcane farms. Sometimes we wash our laundry in the river. I’m so happy because the municipality is making a plan for us all to get water at home everyday,” said Michael Ngomane, one of Mangweni, Ndlovini section residents.
