KAMHLUSHWA – Some metric students commit suicide after finding that they have failed, but to Fikile Mnisi it is a different story. Last Wednesday, a day before the national matric results were released, the 19 year old mysteriously died. Her family says that she died in her boyfriends’ house after she left home to go to a friend’s house Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning her family went to fetch her results to find that she passed with flying colors. “Police came to our house to say that a girl has died. We went to look only to find out that Fikile was dead,” said her father Philip Mnisi. According to Fikile’s boyfriend, whose father is a police officer, Fikile took a juice that he prepared and after staying for a while she started to show signs of discomfort and she collapsed. An ambulance was called to bring her to the hospital, but when they arrived she was already dead. Fikile’s death left everyone in the township with questions, what was the reason for this young girl’s death? Fikile’s father, who was in shock after losing his daughter, suspects that the postmortem was not done. “They told me that a doctor who was supposed to conduct the postmortem declared that she died of natural causes,” said Philip Minisi, Fikile’s father. Tonga police confirmed the incident, but they said no case has been open. Once a case is officially opened an investigation will be launched, said Tonga police spokesperson Sergeant Mzwandile Nyambi. Learners and teachers of Sidlamafa high school, friends and family are grieving for the loss of the icon and dedicated achiever.
