Driekoppies- On 31 December a family in Driekoppies suffered great loss as their house was destroyed in a fire. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is suspected that criminals broke into the house and stole some items before setting the house on fire.

The family was out of town when the incident happened, but when they returned they said some items, like a stove and electric cables, were not in the remains of the fire causing them to be suspicious. The house that was destroyed was built by Thembalethu Home Based Care 4 years ago because the child headed family was living in a mud hut.

After the fire Nkomazi Municipality’s disaster management desk gave the family a food parcel and blankets. Currently the family is staying with a neighbor, while they make a plan to recover from the incident.

Because everything was burned, including school uniforms, they were unable to go back to school this week. If anyone wants to donate or offer support to the family please contact the Nkomazi Voice or Wendy at 076 324 0171.
