The curtain has finally fallen on the Orange Africa Cup of Nations that took place in Angola recently and we wish to congratulate Egypt for making it a treble.
There are lessons which all of us can derive from Egypt’s heroics irrespective of where we are and what we do. One of the lessons would be the virtues of team work and consistency. Bar the likes of Zidane, Egypt’s success is not dependent on the magic of individuals. It is, instead, carved in collectivism that knows no room for egoistic tendencies. Teamwork is the buzzword; no wonder the goal came from the boot of a fringe play- er who had waited patiently for his time to come. When it came he took it with both hands. The energy that the likes of Bafana Bafana spend on prima donnas is just not worth the effort. Teamwork needs to be em- phasized and this is true for every situation that requires people to work together. Now the continent’s attention and, indeed, that of the world will be frmly focused on South Africa for the ultimate showpiece in World football. No doubt, our resources as a country, human, material and capital, will be stretched to the very limit as we position ourselves to sal-vage some pride for the Motherland. We dare not fail. |
